  1. 7.1 Fifty-seven years later, i.e., about 458 b.c., according to one view, Ezra the scribe came with other exiles from Babylonia to carry out a much-needed reform. The total number in this group was some 6,000 or 8,000 persons. Many commentators place Ezra’s coming in the reign of Artaxerxes II, 398 b.c., and hence after Nehemiah.
